In The News

SCEGA hosted the 1st Region One TOPS Testing on June 28.  SCEGA had 12 of the 37 gymnasts participating.  Gymnasts were evaluated on physical abilities (strength) and flexibility.  Those who do well may progress to the National Testing where they may have a chance to be selected to the TOPS National Team and attend a TOPS Team Training Camp.  Pictured are top row from left to right:  Rene Kum, Ruby Hernandez, April Ginez, Kianna Furlong, Jasmine Harris, Annie Hilton. Congratulations to Devin Sheridan, Kami Amemiya-Shows and Kristyn Hoffa who all qualified to the US Challenge in Des Moines, Iowa July 24-26.  All three are also attending the National Elite Qualifier at the National Team Training Center in Texas.  Congratulations also to Sophina DeJesus who was invited to the National Team Training Camp in Texas.

SCEGA had several girls qualify for the Level 9 Western National Championships, Level 10 JO National Invitational Tournament and the Level 10 Junior Olympic National Championships.  The following girls earned gold medals during their competition, Sarah Garcia for Vault with a 9.4 and Kristyn Hoffa for Bars with a 9.475.  Pictured left to right Devin Sheridan (Temecula), Jamie Yamashita (San Marcos), Kristyn Hoffa (San Marcos), Eryka Peterson (Murrieta), Sarah Garcia (Murrieta), Kayla DeFrancesco (Murrieta), and Kami Amemiya-Shows (Murrieta)
 
SCEGA girls who come from North and South San Diego County and Riverside County competed against top gymnasts from Northern and Southern California, Arizona, Utah and Nevada during State and Regional Championships held in April.

Wow, the Spring Level 4 girls were awesome at their final meet of the season- The Blast from the Past Invitational in Escondido!  The team took 1st place with almost 5 points between SCEGA and the next closest team! There were 4 All Around Champions: Erin Elkabchi, Bailey James, April Ginez and Shelby WeidlerBailey, April, Shelby and Ruby Hernandez also joined the 37.00 All Around Club.  In addition there were 11 event champions.  Congratulations to the Spring Level 4 girls on a great first season!

The Spring Level 4 Girls continued to do well at their second meet, The Milkyway Classic!  There were 5 Event Champions: Ruby Hernandez on Vault, Beam and Floor; Bailey James on Bars and Shelby Weidler on Beam.  Ruby Hernandez won the All Around in her age division and she and Bailey James both joined the 37.00 All Around Club.  Great job, girls!

Congratulations to Sophina DeJesus for her success at the American Classic.  Sophina hit all of her events and placed 5th All Around out of 36 gymnasts.  She also qualified to the Visa Championships in Houston August 12-15!

The new Spring Level 4's had a great meet at the Cash Bash!  Their first meet jitters are out of the way and next they are off to the Milky Way Classic!
